Lanark County is located just west of the National Capital Region in Ontario.  Our county is home to the small towns of Carleton Place, Smiths Falls, Perth, and Almonte, as well as the many rural hamlets and townships in between. Even with a small population count (at 63,785 according to 2006 Census data) domestic and sexual violence continue to be priority concerns in our county.

A snapshot of local statistics shows that our community hospitals provided emergency service to 35 adult victims of domestic or sexual violence (all women), and 6 child victims of sexual violence (5 girls and 1 boy), in 2009 alone.  Likewise, our local shelter for women and children threatened by abuse housed close to 200 women and children in 2008-2009, and provided over 3150 hours of Outreach service to hundreds more.
