Resources on Domestic and Sexual Violence

The Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness works to significantly reduce the incidence and impact of abuse through education and public awareness.  The Centre is a national leader in the development of programs to prevent abuse, in advocating for the rights of those who have been abused, and in the creation of survivor-friendly ways of helping abuse victims find healing.

The Centre for Children and Families in the Justice System is a non-profit social service agency helping children and families involved with the justice system.  We are known especially for our grounded approach to understanding and helping children exposed to domestic violence.

The Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women and Childrenpromotes the development of community-centred, action research on violence against women and children.

Little Warriors is a national charitable organization focusing on the education and prevention of child sexual abuse.  Little Warriors teaches adults how to help prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

METRAC (the Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence Against Women and Children) is a not-for-profit, community-based organization that works to prevent and end violence against diverse women, youth, and children.

Health Canada’s National Clearinghouse on Family Violence is Canada’s resource centre for information on violence within relationships of kinship, intimacy, dependency, or trust.

Neighbours, Friends and Families is a public education campaign to raise awareness of the signs of woman abuse so that those close to an at-risk woman or an abusive man can help.

The Ontario Association of Interval & Transition Houses (OAITH) is a provincial coalition primarily made up of first-stage emergency shelters for abused women and their children.  OAITH works together with member shelters to educate and promote changes in all areas that abused women and their children identify as important to their freedom from violence.

The Ontario Coalition of Rape Crisis Centres works for the prevention and eradication of sexual assault, including rape.  The Coalition works to implement legal, social, and attitudinal changes.

The Ontario Network of Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centresprovides leadership and support to 35 hospital-based sexual assault and domestic violence treatment centres across Ontario.

Springtide Resources promotes healthy and equal relationships by engaging communities in shared educational strategies designed to prevent violence against women and the effect it has on children.

Victims of Violence is a federally registered charitable organization.  Since 1984, their mission has been to provide long term support and guidance to victims of violent crime and their families and to aid families of missing children in the search for their loved ones.  They also act as a resource centre providing information on these topics, engage with the media around these issues, and generally promote public safety and the protection of society.

The White Ribbon Campaign works to end violence against women in all its forms, through educating young people (especially boys and men) on the issue, and working in partnership with women’s organizations, the corporate sector, the media, and other partners to create a future with no violence against women.
